RN, NP-C in Psychology
Mary Stein, RN, NP-C is the nurse practitioner of Plaza East Internal Medicine. Ms. Stein provides both primary care and travel medicine to our patients. Ms. Stein has a general scope of primary care practice, which includes well-woman gynecology. Her specialty in travel medicine practice includes yellow fever immunization certification and travel consultations. Ms. Stein received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing at New York University in 1992; her Masters Degree in Primary Care from Columbia University in 1996. Ms. Stein began her career as a nurse practitioner on the inpatient medical service at The Mount Sinai Medical Center in Manhattan. From 1997-2000, Ms. Stein provided primary care at The Center for Advanced Practice, a nurse practitioner-run clinic at the Allen Pavilion in the Inwood section of Manhattan. The nurse practitioners at Center for Advanced Practice were the first NPs in the country with hospital admitting privileges. During that time, Ms. Stein was also on faculty at the Columbia University School of Nursing. Since 2000, Ms. Stein has been practicing in the midtown Manhattan area, at the Columbia Eastside campus, and now in our office at East 59th Street. Ms. Stein is board certified by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners and has membership in both the Upsilon and Delta Chapters of the National Nursing Honor Society. As a nurse practitioner, Ms. Stein diagnoses and manages both acute and chronic illnesses and places particular emphasis on wellness, counseling, and preventive health.
